Travelling with Children

For family bookings, children (aged 2 to 11 years) receive free reserved seating so they can sit beside a parent. When an adult purchases a reserved seat they can select up to 4 children’s seats beside them free of charge.

If an adult selects a reserved seat outside of specific rows (depending on aircraft) they must pay the price difference. Similarly, if a seat is selected for a child outside of these rows, they will be charged the full reserved seat price of these seats.

If there are no available seats together on your flight, then we regret to advise that you must select a different flight.

Infants aged up to 7 days cannot be accepted for travel on any Ryanair flights.

Infants (aged 8 days to 23 months inclusive) travelling with Ryanair must be accompanied by an adult aged 16 or over (one infant per adult). All infants must sit on an adult’s lap and do qualify for a separate bag allowance.

Adults travelling with infants must sit at a window seat as there are 2 oxygen masks provided above these selected seats.

There are baby changing facilities on board located at the rear of the aircraft. Cabin crew can also help to warm baby bottles if required.

If an infant reaches the age of 2 years before their return flight, they must pay the full fare for that return flight only.

When making your booking, please select Infant in the drop-down when choosing passenger type.

Instalment Payment has been added as a new benefit to Family Plus bookings. Customers will be able to split their booking payment in two, 50% will be payable at the time of booking and 50% later.

To be able to use this option, your travel needs to be booked at least 45 days pre-departure and final payment will be due 40 days pre-departure.

Customers need to come back to Ryanair website to make the second payment themselves.

How can I proceed with my second payment of Instalment Payment?

You only need to follow the following steps:

  • Log in to your account or retrieve your booking
  • Go to My Bookings and select the upcoming trip that is pending to be paid
  • Select Complete Payment
  • Proceed with the payment

If the balance is not paid at least 40 days pre-departure, your booking will be automatically cancelled. The instalment paid will be refunded to the Wallet section of your myRyanair Account.

Credit cannot be exchanged for cash and must be used within 12 months of the issued date.

Instalment Payment will not be available where any third-party services (such as accommodation, events, activities, airport transfer, airport parking, car hire or travel insurance) are included on a booking (airport fast track services excluded).

For further information check Instalment Payment Terms and Conditions.

You can add 4 passenger types to your booking: adults, teenagers, children, and infants.

Adults are over 16 years of age, teens are between 12 and 15 years of age, children are between 2-11 years of age, and infants are those under 2 years of age (as of date of flight departure).

If you have already made your booking and need to change the passenger type please contact us here.

If an infant turns 2 years of age or a child turns 16 years of age during your trip, you should purchase 2 one-way flights rather than a return ticket. You may then connect the bookings by contacting us.

We recommend arriving at the airport check-in or bag drop desk 2 hours before your scheduled departure time. At the airport, you can check in 2 items of baby equipment per child (1 pushchair + car seat, booster seat or travel cot) free of charge.

Other items of baby equipment can be checked-in upon payment of an Infant/Child Equipment fee (maximum weight 20 kgs).

Yes. You may fly up to 28 weeks of pregnancy.

  • Once a pregnancy reaches its 28th week, you will need to carry a completed ‘fit to fly’ letter from your doctor/midwife;
  • If you have a single pregnancy, travel is not permitted beyond the end of the 36th week of your pregnancy;
  • For a twin/triplet pregnancy, a ‘fit to fly’ letter is required between 28-32 weeks, and travel is not permitted beyond the end of the 32nd week of pregnancy.

If you have any doubts about your suitability to fly or if you have had any complications while pregnant, please consult your doctor before booking your flights.

Once a pregnancy reaches its 28th week you need a ‘fit to fly’ letter completed by your midwife or doctor. This completed form must be presented to the cabin crew when boarding the aircraft. Travel is not permitted without this completed form.

If you have any doubts about your suitability to fly or if you have had any complications while pregnant, please consult your doctor before booking your flights.

A baby must be at least 8 days old before we can safely accept them on one of our flights. We also advise parents or guardians to ensure that the treating doctor agrees that these very young infants are safe to travel by air.

Similarly, a baby's mother can be accepted for travel from 48 hours after the birth of her baby, subject to the delivery without any complications or surgery. If a caesarean section was performed or if surgery was needed for the mother, then the minimum period before we can accept her for travel is at least 10 days. However, this is also subject to written approval for travel obtained from her treating doctor.

You can bring 2 items of carry-on baby equipment for free.

This can include a pushchair/buggy, car seat, booster seat or travel cot. These will need to be tagged at the check-in desk or at the boarding gate. You will be able to use your pushchair/buggy until you get to the steps of the aircraft. Depending on your arrival airport you may find it at the steps of the aircraft or in the arrival's baggage hall. Check with the ground staff as you disembark the aircraft.

If you bring a car seat for an infant under 2 years of age and wish them to sit in this car seat for the duration of the flight, you will need to book an extra seat for them. You may bring a car seat on board for an infant or child if it is approved for flying and has a 5-point harness.

Other items of baby equipment (max weight 20kg), in addition to the 2 free items, can be checked in for a fee. See our Table of Fees.

There are baby changing facilities on board located at the rear, or middle of the cabin (depending on which aircraft you are on). Our cabin crew can warm baby bottles if required. However, we do not have facilities for cooking or heating baby food on board.

You can carry 2 items of baby equipment free of charge per child.

There is no cabin bag allowance for an infant (aged 8 days to 23 months). However, we allow a baby bag of up to 5kg (dimensions: 45x35x20cms), free of charge, for babies travelling on an adult's lap.
